Please welcome Sorchia DuboisI have Sorchia Dubois back on my blog today with Zoraida Grey and the Voodoo Queen. Please help me welcome Sorchia back, and check out her book! It's launch day! It’s launch day for Zoraida Grey and the Voodoo Queen—Book 2 in my Gothic/Fantasy trilogy about how a small town fortune teller wreaks havoc in a haunted Scottish castle—and beyond. Voodoo Queen takes Zoraida into the Yucatan jungle in search of a long-lost relative who is supposed to be the only person the witches of Castle Logan fear. (BTW: You can get Zoraida Grey and the Family Stones-Book 1 in the series for 99¢ until August 3 Here!) Since Zoraida is a fortuneteller, she consults her tarot cards from time to time and knows quite a bit about astrology—among many other things. To celebrate the launch of Zoraida Grey and the Voodoo Queen, I’m pulling cards and talking about characters in the series. Now, I do a little tarot reading—though I am far from an expert. Had I been born a couple hundred years ago, I guarantee I would have gotten on the wrong end of a bonfire—mainly because I would not have had the sense to shut up and I would not have had the skill to turn the mob into a knot of toads--but I digress. The Hanged man and pisces the fish![]() The Hanged Man is a tarot card depicting a chap whose been hung upside down from a cross. He’s associated with the Zodiac sign of Pisces and the planet Neptune, a misty, ethereal world of visions. The Hanged Man is also associated with the Norse god, Odin who hung himself from the World Tree for nine days and was rewarded for his sacrifice by receiving the gift of writing—the Runes. The Hanged Man and Neptune identify with Pisces the Fish. In the watery, dreamy world of Pisces, gifts and family are important. Usually gentle and dedicated, Pisceans are good friends and are open and creative. Money and material gain take a back seat to spiritual and humanitarian advancement with these creative and thoughtful people. Of course, every sign has its dark side and Pisces is no different. Neptune is the god of inspiration or psychic receptivity and of spiritual dreams. But one person’s dreams can be another’s nightmare and the line is particularly thin for Pisces. Confusion and addiction and delusion exert a strong influence putting even the most intuitive Piscean in danger of being lured into the depths of delusion and deceit. The Hanged Man is about willing sacrifice and the rewards that come from such a deed. Pisceans will work toward their goals and are willing to sacrifice time, money, effort to make their dreams come true. It’s when those efforts and sacrifices go unnoticed and unrewarded that the trouble starts. They can become lonely and detached and may turn to the dark side of the Piscean world. If the list of evil and semi-evil Pisceans looks like an FBI catalogue of Most Wanted, the light side of the sign is a who’s who of wunderkind. People like Rupert Murdoch, Harvey Weinstein, and Osama bin Laden share the sign of Pisces with John Wayne Gacy, James Earl Ray, Aileen Wuornos, Josef Mengele, and Bugsy Siegel. But innovative figures such as George Washington, Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, Eric Clapton, Ansel Adams, Steven Tyler, and Michaelangelo, Robert Downey Jr., Bruce Willis, Elizabeth Taylor, and Jackie Chan claim Pisces, too. In Zoraida Grey and the Voodoo Queen, we meet Jock, an extraordinary creature not even the witchy Logans can explain. Centuries ago, when the Logans came to Black Bridge, Scotland, Jock was already there. On one of his journeys, Jock came across a blue monolith which he brought home to Scotland. He was feeling pretty sorry for himself when he began carving runes on the huge stone. So far as Jock knew, he was the only one of his kind in the world. With no family and no real reason to be alive, he felt like the runes he carved on the stone would be the only things that would mark his existence. The magical carvings may come in handy when Zoraida gets back to Scotland, but that will have to wait for the release of the last book in the series, Zoraida Grey and the Pictish Runes, later this year. Jock’s true date of birth is lost in the long toil of history, but the image of The Hanged Man is his talisman. What sacrifices will he make to secure his legacy? Pisces birthstones are the Amethyst for those born in February and the Aquamarine for those born in March. Zoraida Grey needs help. With the witchy Logan clan holding her best friend hostage in a haunted Scottish castle, she can’t trust anyone—certainly not beguiling but dangerous Shea Logan. And Al, her overprotective boyfriend, doesn’t believe in magic. Only one creature strikes fear in the blackened hearts of the Logan witches. Trouble is Jock disappeared five centuries ago leaving a trail of destruction across the Gulf of Mexico. Now he’s stepped into a steaming pile of Voodoo. Can Zoraida drag wayward Jock back to Scotland? And what’s she supposed to do with two men who promise completely different futures? A Scottish wizard, stripped naked and painted blue—a Voodoo priestess bent on immortality—a yacht-load of Caribbean pirates. What can possibly go wrong? Short Excerpt A cold, dead vapor crawls across the walls of the cenote, rustling the branches of the Ceiba trees and obscuring Al’s worried face. The stench of death floats upward. Something stirs in the black pit. Shea moves closer to my side. “What in the name of Horus is that?” “That’ll be the bloody vampires. God almighty! I’ll be glad to get back to Scotland where the worst ye have to deal with are the witches.” Jock puffs out an exasperated sigh. “I thought you were joking about vampires.” My feet freeze to the ground. “Camazotz is what the Mayans called ‘em. Means Death Bat, if ye want to know.” Jock expels another frustrated burst of air. “I’d love to drink tea and tell ye all about the finer points of battling these wee beasties, but we havenae the time. Mind their fangs and claws.” Buy Links https://books2read.com/ZoraidaGrey About the author...![]() I always intended to be a writer but life, family, and bills got in the way—Oh, I took some bad advice, too. I taught English for many years but in 2014, I returned to my original plan and published Just Like Gravity, my first full-length novel. Since then, I’ve been working on a Gothic trilogy which will be finished and published in 2018. Now, I live in deepest, darkest Missouri where I plan to write until they haul me away. I like a wee nip of Scotch and will drop everything to attend any Scottish festival I can get to.
