Hello all,
I’ve been tagged by Lucy Kubash to write a blog on my writing process. Lucy Naylor Kubash has been writing for many years and is published in short fiction, novel-length work and nonfiction. She writes a monthly column called the Pet Corner. She has two grown children and is also the mom to furry kids, Zeke the Jack Russell, Foo Foo the Pomeranian, and an assortment of cats. She loves writing, books, animals, traveling with her husband of over forty years, and watching sunsets on Lake Michigan. Please visit her website at www.lucynaylorkubash.com. The questions are: 1) What am I working on? Right now I’m editing a ms called Miracle of Christmas. I hope to have it done in time to get it publish by Christmas 2014. I have another manuscript called Jarillo Sunrise, that is at my critique partner for a review. I am also researching and jotting down ideas and plans for a new book called Blue as Sapphires, situated in Phillipsburg Montana, and can’t wait to get that one started. 2) How does my work differ from others of its genre? I try to write my contemporary romance and romance suspense as down to earth type of romances with everyday people. The type of work that the heroine/hero does is realistic and everyday jobs and not a secret covert operations, or paranormal or super rich. (Not that I have a thing against any of this!) I take my heroine/hero with everyday jobs and everyday life with its problems, and throw a romance and/or romance suspense in it and see what happens. 3) Why do I write what I do? I enjoy the process of getting it from my brain to the black and white pages on my computer. 4) How does my writing process work? Sometimes I look at what people do for a living and then formulate my ideas. In my book that is being release this month, Delayed Justice, I imagined someone living out in the country by herself and spending most of her time writing best-selling novels. Then I think about what it was that made her move out to the country by herself. What happened to her and how she feels about what happened, and I came up with the story around her. In the ms called The Last Dig, which I just submitted to the publisher, my husband and I have traveled through Montana and I saw the Badlands, and excavation sites, and wondered what a paleontologist does, so I started researching the job duties and wondered about a woman being a paleontologist. This one I added a little suspense to it so that it’s more of a romance suspense. I’ve done this with just about all the ms I have that are at various stages of editing. (First edit, second edit, critique edit, copy/editor edit, etc.) Kristen Brockmeyer http://kristenbrockmeyer.blogspot.com/ Kristen Brockmeyer is a romance writer. A fledgling member of the RWA and the MMRWA, she's currently up to her eyeballs in an awesome contemporary romance manuscript. She's also a wife, a mom, an admin at award-winning digital agency Biggs|Gilmore, and a chicken-wrangling, weed-pulling, mosquito-slapping farming newbie. She enjoys reading romances, buying useless things at thrift stores, baking cupcakes semi-professionally, and hyphenating phrases, sometimes unnecessarily. To contact Kristen, email her at hepkittenink@gmail.com Samantha Darling http://www.samanthadarlingromance.com/ Samantha lives in Essex, not too far from London, She has a very understanding husband, and two identical twin boys and two Bedlington Terriers. She works part time as a nurse but when she’s off duty, you will find her either chasing the toddlers around like a headless chicken, head buried in a book or tapping away at my stories. She has always loved to read and romance is her favorite genre! She feels you can easily escape into such promising worlds, where sexy Alpha males lead the way and strong heroine's often can't help but fall head over heels in love. Her latest book, Revenge in Rio, is a great romance and worthy book to read. You can purchase it at BeachwalkPress.com You can contact Samantha at: samanthadarling1986@hotmail.com Annette Briggs: http://annettebriggs.com/ Like so many other writers, I had the urge to create stories from the very beginning. I probably left scratches in my mother’s womb that resembled cave drawings. As a child, telling stories in comic strip form was a natural for me. Then I created stories to perform while bringing to life the pretend console “radio” my sister and I concocted from a large cardboard box. That was a l-o-n-g time ago. No soap operas or even Sergeant Preston of the Yukon on radio any more. By the time I was a fourteen, I’d sold my first article to my hometown newspaper. Along the way, I’ve sold short stories, interviews, and articles to magazines and newspapers. Michigan State University’s two inch thick catalog blew my mind with all the wonderful classes it offered, so that’s where I attended. But deep in my heart, I wanted to write–and sell– a book length story—a novel! I jump-started my understanding of writing and selling a novel when I joined Romance Writers of America. I spent a four year stint on the other side of publication as editor of the Mid-Michigan chapter’s newsletter, the Mirror and was immersed in informative and insightful articles and chapter programs from top notch authors. It is with deep gratitude that I’m using what I’m constantly learning from fellow writers, family, and friends to create my writing projects and now my novels. It's always enjoyable reading about how other writers work. We're all different and have different approaches. Whatever works, right? Best wishes on your debut book as well as your works-in-progress.
