My husband and I are preparing to move to Montana hopefully within the next few years. As we look forward to the second chapter of our lives, I can't help but feel sad in some ways of some of the beauty that we have in Michigan that I will surely miss.
The one natural beauty that is at the top of that list, is Lake Michigan. I love Lake Michigan. I love the small and midsize towns that are lined up along the shorelines of Lake Michigan. Grand Haven, Muskegon, Pentwater, Ludington, Traverse City and Charlevoix are my favorites. I love the sandy beaches, the sail boats, the ships that travel the great lakes, the sandy volleyball games, metal detecting, camping at the state parks, and the sand dunes. I thought about how great it would be to have a romance in one of these towns, adding some of my favorite things to do and to capture the allure of small towns on Lake Michigan's shorelines. So, here's my heroine, she is a graphic artis, who's come back to town to take care of her elderly father. My hero is a former doctor, who lives in the cabin of his sail boat during the summer. They grew up together and used to date when they were in high school, but they went their separate ways after they graduated. So, here's my question to blog about today. How should they meet up after all these years? Where should the setting be? I have my own thoughts on this, but I wanted to give my audience a chance to comment and share some ideas. . . . . .

Hm, on the water or dock maybe? Sunshine, bathing suits :), cool breeze, gorgeous water. I'm thinking of the lighthouse in Grand Haven or Ludington. Lots of possibilities! Happy writing!

If he's a former doctor and she's there to take care of her elderly father, it would be logical for him to help her out with a medical emergency - maybe she's out for dinner with her father in one of those great seafood restaurants, and the father starts to choke on the food? The hero would, of course, rush in to help.

The above ideas are great. What if she's out swimming & gets a cramp in her leg? He's coming in to harbor & sees her struggling.

I love those ideas. I do think that if you have him as her father's doctor, there's a conflict of interest so the idea that he jumps in to help, maybe dad has a problem at the beach, cramp or riptide and he jumps off his dock to save him.

After the initial meet, which should definitely be someplace that reflects that small beach town atmosphere, how about the hero gives her the names of several doctors for heroine's dad, as his long-time one has retired. A reason for them to talk again.

What a neat idea Lucy. I've been situating most of my books in Montana and the Dakotas, I thought it was time to do something in Michigan. Maybe I'll set my goal to write a love story for each of the states!!!!! Naw, Montana and Michigan are my favorite states. LOL

I love all of the ideas! Maybe they could be on the break wall for the light house is at Ludington. He could be going one way and she could be walking the other way. Their eyes meet and then they smile at one another. I have a lot of romantic memories of that place.
