Hello everyone! Please welcome Caroline Clemmons to my blog today. She is sharing an excerpt from her book, A Family For Merry. A Family For Merry is part of an anthology featuring 8 other authors along with Caroline called Under A Mulberry Moon. Let's find out about Caroline's story. Former orphan train child now grown, Merry Murphy Bird is convinced she can build a successful life operating the boarding house she and her sister purchased. Rescuing three quirky orphans from a current orphan train was irresistible—if not quite legal. Merry is determined to give the children a better life than she and her sister endured in Nebraska. Boarder Lawyer Blake Woolf has come to town to take over the practice of his late uncle. Blake was the eldest of ten children and forced to care for them far too often. Now he wants nothing more to do with children. ~~~~~~~~ A FAMILY FOR MERRY Excerpt: Outside [the mercantile], they met Mr. Woolfe. “This looks like a fun outing.” Abigail tugged at his hand. “Know what? We got new clothes and I got a dolly. It’s nicer than the one I had at the orph’nage. Tammie got a bear because they didn’t have a lamb. I got new shoes, two pair so I can save one for church. Do you go to church too?” He smiled as if he’d understood her rambling. “Yes, I’ll be going to church. Where are you headed now?” “We’re going to get a treat from someplace called the con… con…” she looked at Merry for help. “Bea’s Confectionary a couple of doors down.” Abigail tugged on his hand again. “Why don’t you come with us? Do you like treats?” He looked poleaxed but recovered. “I think I will. I’m making the rounds to introduce myself to business owners and I haven’t met Bea yet.” Merry couldn’t have been more surprised. “You need not feel obligated because Abigail invited you. We understand you’re a busy man.” He sent her an inscrutable glance. “I always have time for a treat.” Only 99 cents for a limited time! To make up for this tragic error, she writes about handsome cowboys, feisty ranch women, and scheming villains in a small office her family calls her pink cave. She and her Hero live in North Central Texas cowboy country where they ride herd on their rescued cats and dogs. http://www.carolineclemmons.com. Thank you, Caroline, for stopping by and visiting.
