Happy Tuesday everyone! Today I have Mary Martinez on my blog with her new release, Abandoned! The story sounds intriguing and the mystery abounds!  Mary, please tell us about this book and don't forget to check out the rafflecopter at the end of the blog!

Abandoned By Mary Martinez
About the Book:
Glenna Beckett loves her family dearly, but being the youngest of six can be overwhelming. Moving across country helped her learn who she was outside the family. She’s built a successful business in the form of a quaint shop on Main Street of Calistoga, that sells a bit of everything vintage, the new age term for antique. What more does she need? Then he walked into her shop. International playboy, Lance Gordon. After a whirlwind courtship he asks her to marry him. Burying a niggle of doubt in the pit of her tummy, she says yes. He’s even agreed to have the wedding in Brooklyn so her family can attend. But he never arrives. Glenna refused to believe she’d been abandoned at the altar and asks her brother, Tyler, to contact an agent friend on the West Coast to search for Lance. Patrick McGinnis can’t believe he’s walking into a prissy shop in the high end of the Napa Valley searching for a missing groom. The bride, Glenna Beckett, is everything he feared, drop dead gorgeous, and a spoiled brat. Not that he’d ever tell her brother that. He hates wild goose chases, and this mission is exactly that. Patrick’s certain the playboy fiancé is off wooing some other delectable creature. Unfortunately, once Patrick started to dig, he finds there’s more to the tale and it will take all his skills as an agent to keep Glenna safe. Especially when the case takes a turn and threatens the safety of his son, Finn.

Excerpt:
Patrick McGinnis thumbed his phone off and dropped the thing on the table with a thud. What had he just agreed to? He held in a groan, barely.
“What’s up dad? You look like you just ate a sour grape.”
Finnegan, his sixteen-year old son, and the joy of his life, walked to the cupboard and pulled out a bowl. He filled it with cereal and added milk and then joined Patrick at the table. He dipped his spoon for a large scoop, and as he brought it to his mouth, Finn gave him the I’m waiting look.
“I just received a call from an old friend,” he said in way of explanation, he really didn’t like talking work with his son.
“It must not have been a good conversation.”
“It was good to catch up. He was with me at Quantico.” Best to focus on the old acquaintance part.
“Dad, I’m in high school. You can stop sheltering me now. He must have called for a reason. One you’re not too thrilled about. What’s up?” He repeated his earlier question.
Damn, Finn was growing up to fast. And the kid was right. He had a tendency to shield him from his work. Something he’d always tried to do, but more since Finn was three and the worst thing that could ever happened to a child had happened.
“Tyler is an agent in New York, however, he has a sister in Calistoga.”
His son let out a hoot of laughter. “Match-making from the east coast.”
“Ha, ha. No, his sister seems to have lost her fiancé and her assistant.”
“What they elope and left her behind? Why’d he call you?”
“The fiancé never arrived at the wedding. And then when his sister went to open her shop she found the assistant had been shot.”
“Oh.” Finn ate for a few minutes in silence. “Does the lost fiancé and the dead assistant have something to do with each other?”
“That’s one of the things Ty wants me to find out.”
Finn suspended his spoon half way to his mouth. “What is the other?”
“He wants me to find the missing fiancé for his sister.” He pulled his fingers through his hair. “It’s a wild goose chase if you ask me. If the guy had wanted to get married he’d have been at the wedding.”
“You’d think, unless he couldn’t.”
Patrick contemplated his son. He would make a good detective. He’d already helped solve a few of his cases, by just listening and making comments that brought other solutions to mind. Patrick wasn’t sure he wanted that for his son. He loved being a federal agent. For a while, after the incident with his son, he’d tried something else. However, his true passion was law enforcement and he’d been placed back on duty within the year.
You couldn’t help where your heart led you. No matter the consequences.
“That is what I need to find out.” He stood and poured more coffee into his cup to warm up the cooling liquid. He leaned a hip on the counter while he sipped. “What’s going on at school today?”
Finn finished his cereal and stood to wash his bowl out. He appeared to be thinking as he put his dishes in the dishwasher.
“I have an algebra test. Just a fair warning, Dad, it’s kicking my ass.”
“Language son.” But he smiled, he’d heard a lot worse. “I have a few minutes do you need my help?”
His son gave him a skeptical look, which was well warranted. Algebra had thoroughly kicked his ass in high school, too, to the point he’d needed Saturday morning classes to pass the damn class.
After a moment he answered. “No, Mrs. Stewart said she’d meet me before school.”
“Old Mrs. Stewart is still there? I had her for Algebra.” He smiled and resisted the urge to ruffle his son’s hair. Since the boy was almost as tall as he was, it’d be a little awkward anyway. “You’re in good hands then. Do you want me to drop you on my way to Calistoga?”

KINKY BRIEFS, QUATRO by Seelie Kay #MFRWauthor #AHAgrp

Please note: Adult Content
Happy Friday, everyone! Thank you for stopping by. Today I have Seelie Kay visiting. She's the author of Kinky Briefs, Quatro and a few other great titles. First, she shares a humorous story that happened during her law school days. Welcome Seelie!

When I was in law school, I traveled home to Wisconsin to visit my family. I wanted to surprise everyone because I had not been home in a while, so I arranged for my Dad—a prominent public official--to pick me up at the airport, but told no one else. He picked me up, we went out to lunch and then I dropped my Dad back at work so I could use his car to run some errands. That afternoon, my Mom received an “anonymous” phone call (this was before Caller I.D.) informing her that my Dad was having an affair with some young blonde, that he had “been seen around town.” My Mom immediately called my Dad and he responded, “Well, yes, I did have lunch with a blonde, in fact, I am bringing her home for dinner to meet you.” My Mom was fit to be tied and she was waiting, roller pin in hand, when we arrived home that evening.

I walked in the door and smiled at my Mom, moving to give her a hug. She pushed me aside and said angrily, “Hush. Your father is bringing home some hussy and I am going to bean him with this rolling pin.”

I started to laugh. Finally, I managed to say, “Mom, I am that hussy.”

OMG, that's hysterical! At least your Dad kept the surprise to himself!  ROFLOL

Tell us a little bit about Kinky Briefs, Quatro.

Take another kinky voyage through Lawyerland!

Indulge in a walk on the wild side with these sizzling short stories about lawyers in love, with a dash of kink. From painting well-hung nudes at a networking event or thwarting terrorists intent on harm to finding love despite a chronic illness or exploring kink on a train, these lawyers pursue love with a vengeance. And while affairs of the heart may come in all shapes and sizes—a law school ménage a trois, a middle-aged A.G. and a law firm associate, and a new marriage suddenly threatened by a spouse long believed dead—these relationships thrive despite the odds. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and yes, the resultant loin heating might even make you blush, but in the end, you’ll run out and buy a set of handcuffs. Because that’s the only way to defuse the sizzle created by these hot, sexy stories.

Excerpt:
Kendall rolled over and met with firm resistance. Startled, she looked up into Luke’s smiling face. He leaned down and kissed her. It was then she noticed they were skin on skin. “Oh. My. God. I’m in bed with my best friend and we’re both naked.”

Luke laughed. “About damn time. I’ve wanted to get into your pants for like forever.” He wove his fingers through her hair. “Think we can be lovers and friends?”

“I’m not sure. I never really saw myself with a tax lawyer.” Kendall smirked. “Boring.”
“Hey, you didn’t act bored last night when I had you tied to your bed.”

“That’s because you scared the crap out of me. I never even suspected you were kinky. Where the hell have you been hiding all of those whips and chains? I am sure I have gone through every single drawer and closet in your bedroom, repeatedly, trying to find evidence you preferred men.”

Luke’s mouth dropped open. He then launched himself at Kendall, pinning her underneath him with his body. He kissed her, then trailed his tongue down her neck, his mouth finally settling on a nipple. Gently, he began to suck, and when Kendall moaned, he bit down.
Kendall yelped with surprise.

“Be happy I’m not getting one of my whips out to punish you, smart mouth. But nipple clamps are still an option. And maybe next time, a ball gag.” He chuckled, a low, somewhat evil, chuckle. “And as for my toys, look under your bed.”

Excerpt:  In this excerpt, Katherine is hiding in a dark corridor to avoid dancing with someone she has no wish to see during her first ball as a newly arrived London debutante. She then receives a rude shock!
No one had thought to light a candle sconce and this second corridor turning she’d taken was as black as a dungeon. Katherine couldn’t even see her hand but she wasn’t frightened of the dark. No, Katherine was not fainthearted. Yet she did squeal when, taking another step, her progress was impeded by a very large object and, with no warning at all, she found herself flying through the air, landing with a painful jarring of her wrists upon the cold, hard flagstones. “Good Lord!” came a disembodied young male voice in the dark before a groping hand located a piece of Katherine – namely a hank of hair – which caused her to shriek even louder when it was quite unnecessarily tugged. Whether this was to establish who or what she was, she had no idea – and perhaps neither did the tugger for immediately a profound apology was issued before the groping hand was operating with complete abandon in the dark. This time it found Katherine’s breast just as the voice said in tones of utter mortification, “Forgive me! Are you hurt? Here, let me help you. That’s what I was trying to do, I promise. I didn’t realise you were on the ground? Take my hand. Really, I can’t apologise enough.” Katherine had made one unsuccessful attempt to stand but it was a struggle in her flounced skirt and multiple corded petticoats. She swatted away the supposedly helping hand and hissed something unintelligible – somehow unladylike language seemed less of an offence when she couldn’t see to whom she was speaking. But when the disembodied groping hand entered her orbit once more – in fact, brushing the bare flash above her garter and getting in a good squeeze of her thigh flesh, her temper which had never been one of her strong points, snapped and she lashed out with a sharp slice through the inky air. A loud yelp made her realise she’d perhaps been a little peremptory and certainly too violent in this unladylike action and even though she felt disinclined to apologise she did say, ungraciously, “I’m sorry I hit you but a lady can only take so much of all this groping in the dark. I mean…what were you doing?” “I could ask you the same thing,” came the response, now at ear level. In fact, she could feel the soft whisper of breath against her cheek which made her step back, saying, “I asked first.” “I was chasing a cat. Bending down in fact. And then something crashed into me. Or on top of me.” “That was me.” “Yes, of course it was you. There’s no one else here, is there?” Katherine bridled at his tone. She was unused to being spoken to as if she were at fault when, in this case, she most certainly wasn’t. “I think that’s a very rude response,” she told him. “Just as it was very thoughtless of you to crouch down where anybody could simply trip over you.” “Anybody – or rather, anybody else – would be carrying a candle. I think I have every reason to be deeply suspicious of the motives of anyone who is not.” “Well, you don’t have a candle. And I would suspect the truth of anyone hiding away in the dark, claiming they were crouching over an imaginary cat,” huffed Katherine. “In fact, I’d wager there was no cat here at all. I would have heard it. No, you were sneaking away from something, weren’t you?” “And if I was, what business of yours? Whoever you are.” Katherine could not imagine the audacity. “You certainly are no gentleman to speak to a lady in that fashion.” “Since that lady hasn’t bothered to declare herself, I think I could be forgiven.” “A gentleman would have declared himself first,” Katherine said hotly. “What were you sidling away from? There’s a noisy ball going on in the next room. If you were a gentleman, wouldn’t you be gallantly asking the ladies to dance instead of hiding in the dark? Perhaps there’s someone you’re afraid of seeing? A lady who has expectations of you behaving towards her as a gentleman.” Katherine said this triumphantly before elaborating on her theme. “My guess is that you’ve given some poor young lady the idea that you’ll dance with her all night and now you’ve changed your mind and are sneaking away.” “Since you put forward the idea, I’d suggest the reason you’re here is exactly the same. You’re trying to sneak away from a gentleman to whom you’ve already promised two dances. Meanwhile he, poor fellow, is searching for you vainly in the ballroom while you’re here making a mockery of him.” “He can do that all by himself,” Katherine sniffed. “But I never promised him anything and I never will.” “Ha! I was right.” The voice sounded very pleased with itself. “Well, I feel sorry for this fellow without even seeing what you look like, miss. Poor fellow!” “Poor fellow, indeed. George can pine til the cows come home. I’d even suffer talking to you than have to spend another five minutes with his sweating hands squeezing mine and his moon eyes boring into me…and his horrible, putrid breath choking me and his—” “Poor George! I was just starting to feel sorry for him until you described the exact George I, too, am so at pains to avoid tonight.” The voice became more confidential and the mood relaxed. Katherine crossed her arms and waited for him to speak again for she was rather interested in his George and then quite amused when the voice began to describe the very George against whom she railed. “Well, you have described my cousin to a very fine point,” she laughed. “And if you are as well acquainted with him as you seem to be, then you obviously know exactly why I am here in the dark.” There was a small silence. And then, “Your cousin?” “In my family there are two Georges: Young George who is the son of my aunt and her husband, Lord Quamby, and Odious George who is his uncle, George Bramley.” “Then we’re talking about the same George!” The voice sounded stunned. A quick gasp from both of them was followed up by a delighted cry in unison. “Jack!” “Katherine!”

Unfortunately drowning her heroine on the last page was apparently not in line with the expectations of romance readers so Beverley became a journalist. Twenty-six years later Beverley was delighted to receive her first publishing contract from Robert Hale (UK) for a romance in which she ensured her heroine was saved from drowning in the icy North Sea. Since 2009 Beverley has written more than thirteen historical romances, mostly set in England during the early nineteenth century. Mystery, intrigue and adventure spill from their pages and if she can pull off a thrilling race to save someone’s honour – or a worthy damsel from the noose – it’s time to celebrate with a good single malt Scotch. Beverley lives with her husband, two daughters and a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy the size of a pony opposite a picturesque nineteenth-century lunatic asylum. She also writes Africa-set adventure-filled romances tarring handsome bush pilot heroes, and historical romances with less steam and more sexual tension, as Beverley Eikli. Never Say Never by Ruth A. Casie  #AHAgrp #MFRWauthor

2/16/2018

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. Today, I have Ruth A. Casie visiting with her story, Never Say Never. She starts out telling us a little humorous story that ended up in one of her books. Welcome, Ruth!

My brother Alan and his wife Eloise are happily married, very happily married. After ten years (and now on the other side of the country) Alan called and asked me if I’d once again be a witness at his wedding. How romantic I thought. Renewing your vows, I asked? Eh, not quite, he told me. They had moved cross country when Eloise was appointed Vice President at one of the California universities. They filled out all the paperwork and got a call from the human resource area that there was no record of their marriage. They were married in New Jersey, they told the counselor. No record in any state, the woman said. I flew to California to witness the wedding and make sure the papers were filed.

Oh My Gosh! Did this tale end up in one of your books?

This incident was too good to not become a story. It is the underlying theme of Second Chance by the Sea, a short story in the anthology Timeless Escapes.
Married for ten years, a couple at odds find their marriage was never registered. Will an impending disaster be the final straw that breaks them up or will it rekindle their love and send them back to the altar for a second chance?

So glad it worked out for your brother. LOL, tell us about your current story, Never Say Never.

Picture
Pam Dawes has always done what was expected by her high-society parents and friends. Look where that got her. Husband number two is quickly becoming a bad memory. She’s through with men. Never again.
Mikhail Ivanovich Stephanov, doesn’t care what happens to himself—revenge for his family is all that matters.
When a freak storm brings down communications, Pam’s the only one who can help the mysterious Russian who washes up on her dock. Sparks reignite when they realize they’d met years ago. Mik’s more than willing to put his vendetta aside, until Pam becomes the target of the Russian thugs that have infiltrated Havenport’s coast. He’d die to keep her safe.
They’d both sworn to never love again. Will they learn to never say never?

Excerpt

Volgograd came rushing back. What was it about Pam Dawes that loosened those memories he’d worked hard to keep locked away?
“The Volga is the longest river in Europe and used to be known for its sturgeon,” he said, the neutral statement safe.
“Ah, Russian caviar,” Pam said with an overaffected Russian accent. She leaned close. “My comrade. Tell me about the cold Russssian nights and the warm wodka.”
“Lozhimsya spat’ golym i derzhim drug druga v teple.” He leaned closer and whispered in her ear.
She didn’t pull back. He found the heated flush that went up her neck charming. Was it his hot breath against her ear or…
Pam turned and faced him. Their lips a breath apart.
“You go into bed…naked…and keep each other warm,” Pam said. Her stare didn’t waver. “Surely you don’t mean that as an invitation.”
A cool sheen dampened his forehead, and excitement raced through his veins. Her breath bathed his face. Smoky, seductive eyes stared at him. For the moment, they were back at the Moscow gala, sitting alone on a small sofa in a ballroom. He blinked and returned to the sand-colored kitchen.
“No. We go into bed. You have the wrong conjugational form.” He put his hand around her neck and pulled her toward him. Slowly, her eyes closed. He bent closer, then lightly, very lightly, kissed her lips.

Blurb: An addiction counselor and a security guard struggle to free a little girl and her father, two lost spirits trapped inside an abandoned mental asylum.

Addiction counselor Laura Horton returns from college to move in with an old friend and start her career. But her homecoming is jarring. Her friend moves out, leaving Laura alone with the gorgeous but intimidating ex-boyfriend—in a house that snugs up to an ancient graveyard.

Officer Miller Stanford is a man with a shattered past. His alcoholic dad destroyed their family, a weakness Miller is terrified will consume him too. The last thing he needs is a sexy, blonde addiction counselor watching his every move. When he begins to see specters in the dark, he starts questioning his own stability.

But Laura sees her too—a pathetic child-spirit searching for her father. Then Laura starts digging into old asylum records . . . Can Miller and Laura uncover the secrets of Talcott Hall without jeopardizing their love—and lives—in the process?

Excerpt:

“Make love to me, Miller. Please. I feel a little lost. A little like that child-spirit out there. I need to be held. I want to feel cherished. Wanted,” she whispered.
“Oh, I want you, all right. But what scares the hell out of me, Laura, is how I’m starting to need you.” He pulled back and gazed into her huge, blue eyes. “Need you. And not just like this.” He searched her face as he fiddled with one errant, blonde curl and tucked it behind her ear.
He waited, searching her eyes for some sign she understood what he was saying. But there was only open, pure innocence in those eyes. She had no idea what it meant to be loved. He could see that now. And like a pinprick to his heart, he nearly winced when she replied, “I’m yours, Miller. I’ll give you whatever you want. To please you. I just want to make you happy.”
“Laura, I love you. Are you ready for that? I mean, I’ve never felt this way about anyone in my life.”
She blinked fast as though he’d hit her with something too complex for her to understand. “Why?” she asked in a small voice.
“Because I’ve never felt so alive since the day you came waltzing into my house. Into my life. At first, like a shy bird. One I soon realized was a well-disguised lady hawk.” His mouth curled into a wry smile. “And because you don’t think I’m crazy.”
He watched as her pale, gold eyebrows grew together, her eyes glistening. “I don’t know how to do that, Miller. . .the love thing. I mean, other than family. I don’t know if I’m ready for—”
Miller didn’t give her the chance to finish saying what he not only didn’t want to hear, but didn’t believe. His mouth crushed hers with a hunger, a passion he’d never known. She didn’t resist, but dove into the pool of desire right alongside him.
He would show her. If she didn’t understand his words, then he would show her. Show her what it felt like to be loved.

Their mutual attraction is immediate, but Nik’s skeptical.  Could it possibly be that this gorgeous, enchanting artist has no idea that he’s Europe’s most eligible prince?

Excerpt:
Howard had been talking nonstop for twenty minutes.  Each time Petey thought she’d found the opportunity to extricate herself, he continued his rambling, while edging ever closer, invading her personal space, and chatting about his work and his home in New Jersey.  He seemed to be one of those individuals who was completely inept at picking up on social cues.
She’d just worked up the gumption to simply excuse herself the next time he came up for air, when she heard a familiar voice.
“There you are, darling!”  Nik swooped in, handing her a glass of wine.  “I’m so sorry I’m late.  Will you ever forgive me?”  He wrapped an arm around her waist and kissed her cheek.
Stunned, Petey stammered a bit.  “Um, yes.  Well…darling, yes, you certainly are late.  What’s up with that?  I’ve been waiting for you.”
“I know.  But traffic was a nightmare, what with the rain.  You just wouldn’t believe it.”  Nik turned to Howard.  “Who’s your friend?”  He smiled pleasantly at the confused man.
“Oh, sorry.  Nik, this is Howard.  Howard, meet Nik.”
Howard worked his mouth, but was blissfully silent.
Nik reached to shake his hand.  “So nice to meet you.  If you’ll excuse us, I need to make up for lost time.  Come, darling.”
He grasped Petey’s hand and led her to the opposite side of the gallery.  When they reached a quiet corner, he turned and smiled at her.
She gave a relieved laugh.  “Oh, my God, for the second time tonight, you saved my bacon.”
Nik laughed, too.  “The exasperation on your face said that you needed rescuing.  Who was he anyway?”
“Some guy that my friend Jules thought I should meet.  I mean, he’s nice enough, but he had absolutely no sense of personal space.  And he would notstop talking.  Sheesh!”
“He’s probably just shy in the presence of such a pretty woman.”  Nik’s blue eyes sparkled.
Petey rolled her eyes.  “Yes, I’m sure that’s it,” she said sarcastically.  “I guess you ditched your business dinner?”
Nik nodded. “I did.”
She eyed him curiously.  “What kind of business are you in?”
He paused a beat.  “I’m in international finance and development.”
Warmth flooded her face, and she knew she was blushing.  A sheepish smile curled her lips.  “I have no idea what that means.”
He smiled, too.  “I travel and meet with business people, mostly, occasionally politicians, and we discuss ways to improve our national economies, and ways to assist developing economies as well.”
“Oh.  I’m sure Jules would understand completely.  She has a sharp business mind.  I’m just so,” she gave a self-deprecating chuckle, “right-brained.”
She fanned herself lightly with her hand.  “So, you’d had enough of finances and development for one night?”
Nik nodded agreeably.  “I’ve worked all day.  As I sat listening to more business conversation, all I could think was that I’d like to attend the gallery opening of a promising young sculptor.”
Petey’s eyes sparkled mischievously.  “Well, if I hear of any, I’ll let you know.”  They both laughed together.
“I just watched your video.  Such an interesting way to introduce yourself to patrons.”
“Oh, that.”  Petey blushed.  “Jules flew out to Montana a couple of months ago.  She hired a film crew to follow me for a day, do interviews and stuff.  Then they just put it together.”
He regarded her curiously, eyes sparkling.  “What are the chances you’d give me a guided tour of this incredible exhibit?”
She pretended to consider his request.  “Well, you did see to it that I was put back together after being blasted by that tidal wave.   And, you rescued me from being talked to death by a close-talking dentist.  I’d say your odds are pretty good.”  She laughed.  “I think bringing me a glass of wine put you over the top, though.”
Nik laughed, too.  “Lucky for me, then.”
“Lucky for you.  Okay, let’s take a tour.”

Bringer of Chaos, Forged In Fire by Kayelle Allen #SciFi #MFRWauthor #AHAgrp #Pietas #SpaceOpera

Hello everyone! Today I have Kayelle Allen visiting with her book, Bringer of Chaos, Forged in Fire. She shares with us a little bit about her search "perfect" photo of the hero in her story, Pietas. So let's learn of her journey, and the journey of Pietas.

Picture
Honored to be on your site today, sharing with your readers. Thank you for the invitation!
With some characters, as long as you get close (blond, handsome) looks don't matter. But I knew exactly how the Bringer of Chaos series hero looked. I could see Pietas as as if I had a photograph. He wasn't a "handsome blond." His looks were a vital part of his story. He'd been genetically enhanced: a perfect warrior, scientist, man.
I looked at stock photos for months. Nothing. Then one day, looking for an angel image, I saw a thumbnail sized image of blond male angel. When I opened the image in a larger size, it was like Pietas looked straight at me. I held my breath, stunned, then bought the picture. I have since bought almost every photo of this model.
I Googled the angel image to see if there were more images somewhere else, which led me to a page on DeviantArt where someone had posted the image and given his name. After that, it was easy to discover what he was doing now.
Although not a professional model, Nik Nitsvetov is involved in cosplay, and he's both brilliant and fearless. If you want to see more of his work, visit his Instagram page. https://www.instagram.com/nitsvetov

Excerpt from Bringer of Chaos: Forged in Fire
In this scene, Pietas is surveying Sempervia, the alien world where he's been exiled.

Sempervia, year 1 in exile
The summit lay a good distance ahead, but they had left the forest. Scant grasses and scrubby bushes dotted the landscape. Pietas pushed further up the mountain, where hand over hand, he climbed up among black boulders. Their pockmarked texture stung his palms but did no harm to his feet. He'd hiked half the planet barefoot. Panting from the quick exertion, he turned to take in the view.
Across plains to the east, low-scudding clouds skimmed a fringe of mountains, no more than blue smudges on the horizon. Their white tips implied great height. North, the lazy river he and the human had followed from its source snaked its way across the savannah, a necklace of shimmering gold. The path took seconds to trace with his gaze but had taken them weeks to walk. As it wended its way further south, the confluence of its mighty waters with another river turned its gold to muddy brown.
What worried him were the sheets of gray in the northwest. A storm marched straight toward them. The heavy, pelting rain on Sempervia so saturated the air one could drown on land.
They did not dare let it catch them in the open. They needed to cross the summit and reach shelter.
He braced both hands on his knees. How galling to need a break. He'd hiked less than five hours. Was he no better than a mortal?
Before his exile, Pietas would have run--not walked--up this mountain without a single pause. When mortals and traitors among his kind imprisoned him in an unpowered life pod and left him to rot for over a year, it broke his health and shattered his stamina.
Had it not been for his friend, Six, what sanity Pietas possessed would have been as beaten and battered as dirt clods trampled in a horse paddock. Though unable to free Pietas, Six had stayed with him day and night, talking, whistling, singing songs, sharing life and light through his tales.
Long after Pietas could no longer respond.
Broken in body as he was, his will, determination, and drive survived intact, as had his undying thirst for revenge.
No doubt his enemies thought to teach him a lesson. Having endured the worst they could muster, he'd learned there was no pain he could not bear, no matter how horrific. One day, he'd return the favor and teach them.

About Bringer of Chaos: Forged in Fire
When the immortal Pietas is marooned on a barren world with no food and few survival tools, he knows it could be worse. He could be alone. But that's the problem. He's not.
Half a million of his people sleep in cryostasis, trapped inside their pods and it's up to Pietas to free them. He can't release one at a time. It's all or nothing. He's facing over five hundred thousand hungry, thirsty, homeless immortals who will call on him for rescue and he has no way to answer.
It's not all bad. The beautiful telepathic warrior he's loved for lifetimes is at his side. He's bonded with a sentient panther. He hates humans but the one dumped on this planet with him has become a trusted friend.
Before Pietas can build shelter, figure out how to grow food, or set up a government, he must take back command from a ruthless enemy he's fought for centuries. His brutal, merciless father.
Immortals may heal, but a wound of the heart lasts forever...

Excerpt:
A waitress came to take it off his hands. “Another?” she queried and he nodded agreement, placing a crumpled dollar on her tray. “Too much,” she told him shaking her head no. Matthew was surprised by her response but the tray was covered with loose change so he removed his bill and left the equivalent in quarters. Everything was so inexpensive but the server still needed to make a decent living.
She gave him a grateful smile and turned to move to her next customer, carefully balancing her tray above the heads of the young people around her. In the process, she nudged Matthew slightly causing him to lose his footing and fall gently against another body. Turning to apologize he found himself staring into the clearest, lightest blue eyes he had ever seen. He couldn’t look away.
“Sorry,” he mumbled when he finally regained his composure.
“That’s okay,” she replied with a quick, bright smile. She was lovely, in a wholesome girl next door way. She had her blond hair pulled into a ponytail that curled like a hair product ad, clear-skinned cheeks that were pink with warmth and perhaps exertion, and a curvy body displayed under a bright red sweater and a flared plaid skirt.
Matthew felt his mouth go dry and his palms get sweaty. She did something to him, this fresh faced woman that he found incredibly sexy. Her red lipstick was a slash of bright color mimicking the red of the sweater. Until this moment, bright red lipstick screamed “tough broad, stay away” to Matthew but on this girl it whispered “come hither.”
“Matthew,” he squeaked out, extending his hand to shake hers. Thinking twice about it, he retracted his arm, running his palm against his pants swiftly, and hopefully surreptitiously, before he extended his hand again.
“Patty,” she responded, placing her soft fingers in his large palm. She shook like a girl. After all the bone-breaking handshakes Matthew had endured across the globe, this limp, fingers-only shake surprised him. She looked athletic, not tough but toned, and not sickly pale like most Chicagoans in winter. The handshake didn’t match the image and normally would have bothered him. Nothing about Patty bothered him. Everything about her bothered him.
