Role-Play University: Freaky Geek Series.

Hello all!  Today I have Stephanie Williams  on my site discussing her new release, Role-Play University:reaky Geek Series.

Here's the Blurb:

There are all kinds of teaching going on at the University these days!
Tina is returning to teach at her former University and maybe hook up with Peter, who’s teasingly called the ‘Male Librarian’ by students and faculty.  But she soon finds out the geeky façade is just that. He may be the absentminded professor by day, but he’s a master in the bedroom at night.
Peter teaches more off campus than on with his new playmate Tina, but is she ready to explore him teaching her new things by his rules?

Here's the EXCERPT:

He walked toward her closing the gap between them a mere two inches. He took her by the chin and tilted her head back. She instinctively closed her eyes.
“Open your eyes!”
They snapped open.
“Look at me!”
She did.
“I’ve been waiting for you to say those words to everyone, ever since I saw you with that collar.”
“Wh….what words?”
“That someone else has the key.” Still holding her chin, he unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt with his free hand.
Tina let out a gasp. He wore the key to her collar on a chain around his neck.
“Between you and me, right?”
She just nodded.
“Good.” He let go of her chin. “This may turn out to be an interesting quarter after all.” He crossed arms then crossed his feet at the ankles, looking cockier than ever.

Martini Club 4 – The 1920s

I’d like to present Alicia Dean and friends, sharing a fun new series:

Before they introduce their stories, the four ladies have a question for readers:

Amanda McCabe: What book started you on reading and/or history?  (Mine were the Betsy/Tacy series, which I found in my elementary school library!  We followed Betsy and Tacy from when they were about 5 to marriage and families in the early 1900s, and I was fascinated by their world!)

Alicia Dean: What book have you read that sticks out in your mind the most? For me, it’s hard to pick just one, but I will say that the Eden Series from nearly 40 years ago by Marilyn Harris is probably one that has stayed with me as much or more than any others.

Kathy L Wheeler: The very best part of working with a group of your favorite writers is the hanging out! What do you do for fun?

Krysta Scott: When reading a romance, do you prefer love triangles or just two people? If you don’t like love triangles, is it because they are not well written well or realistic?

 Martini Club 4 – The 1920s

A few years ago, myself and three of my writer friends—Amanda McCabe, Kathy L Wheeler, and Krysta Scott—began meeting each Friday evening (unless something extremely important kept one of us away, and trust me, it had to be IMPORTANT) for Martinis and various other libations, at the Martini Lounge in Edmond, Oklahoma. In time, we came to dub our gathering the ‘Martini Club.’ We unwind, vent, chat about writing, laugh, and strengthen an already strong bond of friendship. It’s not only fun, it’s beneficial. As all writers know, no other friend besides a writer friend truly understands us. (We also have an honorary MC member, Cindy Sorenson. Although she is a writer, she declined to write one of the stories, but she has been invaluable as far as brainstorming and beta reading. So, what else could we do…we named a character after her in the series!)

During one of these gatherings, one of us, and I can’t remember who, made an offhand remark about writing stories centered around the Martini Club. The idea blossomed from there, and the ‘Martini Club 4’ series was born. We thought it would be fun to set our first MC4 stories in the 1920’s, but we intend to write more in other decades in the future. During the planning, plotting, and writing, we have had a few weekend retreats that were loads of fun, and some were even productive. J What a joy to do something that I love so much—writing—with a group of ladies that I love so much!

Rebellious: Martini Club 4 Series – The 1920s

Amanda McCabe

Blurb: Can an aristocratic lady melt the cold heart of a Russian gangster?

Lady Jessica Hatton fled her high-society London debutante life for one of investigative journalism in New York—only to be relegated to the fashion pages. Searching for a juicy story leads her to Club 501, the city's most glamorous speakeasy—and its handsome, mysterious owner, Frank Markov. But his past of war and revolution puts their hearts—and their lives—in danger...

Excerpt: Jessica turned back to look at the building.  The windows stared down at them in blank darkness, and she could only hear the faint roar of traffic from Broadway, a woman's shrill laughter, a cat howling from behind a trash can.

“No, not from here,” she said.  But she saw the shallow flight of stone steps Meggie had told them to look for, leading down to a shadowy doorway.  “Come on!  We'll be late.  Maybe Eliza is already waiting.”  Eliza had said she would meet them there after her shift at the factory, though they hadn't seen her for a while.

She tugged Charlotte down the steps after her and knocked three times on the door.  A tiny, grilled window set high above her head slid open.

“The elephant's eyebrows,” she said, repeating the passwords she'd been given.  Obviously, someone there had a weird sense of humor.

The window slammed shut, and for several long seconds there was no sound except that distant hum of cars and the pounding of Jessica's heart.  Had she done it wrong?  Had she come this close to finding a real story, to finding her shipboard Romeo again, only to be turned away?

Ruined: Martini Club 4 Series – The 1920s

Blurb: She vowed she’d be no man’s doxy, but fate had other plans...

After the Earl of Goodwin attempts to force himself on her, housemaid Eliza Gilbert flees England for New York, hoping to build a better life. But the land of opportunity proves as harsh as the London docks, and she finds herself in a situation more dreadful than the one she escaped.

Former boxer, Vince “The Fist” Taggart dreams of marrying, having a family, and living a quiet, peaceful life. But when a girl he's known since childhood disappears, he heads to New York in search of her and meets Eliza, a woman with a less than honorable reputation. Inexplicably captivated, Vince can’t force himself to stay away, especially when he learns Eliza is the key to finding his missing friend.

Excerpt:

Lord Renwald bellowed, then fell to his knees, one hand on his head, blood seeping between his fingers. His mouth gaped like a fish, his eyes wide and agony-filled. He reached his free hand for her and nearly gripped her skirt, but she jumped back, out of his reach. He frowned as if perplexed, then thudded to the floor—still as a corpse.

Eliza stood frozen for a moment. Her entire body trembled. Warm stickiness coated her fingers. She’d killed a man. Not just a man, but an Earl. Dear Heaven, she’d killed him. If they caught her, she’d be put to death. The realization jolted her from her trance. She dropped the vase and rushed to the door, flinging it open. She raced down the hallway, to the stairs that led to the lower floor. Nearly flying, she hurried down the steps, past the wide-eyed stares of the other housemaids, and opened the cubby. Just as Maud promised, the valise was inside. Eliza snatched it and rushed to the back door. Her heart ached that she hadn’t had a chance to tell Maud goodbye, to thank her. But she’d promised the woman she would run and never look back. She didn’t know where she would go, or how she would get there, but she knew she would never return.

Reckless: Martini Club 4 Series – The 1920s

Kathy L Wheeler

Blurb: Lady Margaret turned Lady Bootlegger…

Singer Margaret (Meggie) Montley needs money…fast. Her friend is in a dire situation with nowhere to turn. While Meggie is on the brink of stardom, it’s not soon enough to save her friend.

Harry Dempsey is out to avenge the deaths of his father and brother at the hands of a ruthless gangster. But trouble spirals out of control when Meggie Montley shows up the night he meets his nemesis to settle the score. Saving the impetuous woman from a crime lord might be easier than saving her from her own reckless behavior.

Excerpt: Shadows loomed, and every so often a match struck, and the red-tipped glow of a cigarette illuminated a face. Meggie pulled a deep breath to steady her jumpy nerves. Adapted her mind into her stage persona mode.  Forced a casual stride. It occurred and surprised her in how comfortable the oxford-styled uppers were compared to the toe-choking heels she wore nightly. She shoved her hands deep into the pockets of her coat.

The closer she grew to Club 501 the tighter her stomach knotted. She reached the block and crept around the building, nerves taut as the gory details relayed by Jess and Charli in her head like the film with Ramon Navarro she and Jess had seen, only the scene in her head appeared in vivid colors. The most dominant being red.

Fingers clenched to stop their trembling, she hugged the side of the building. Nothing.

She didn’t know whether to be relieved or furious after all of her and Georgie’s painstaking efforts.

Just as she let out a dejected sigh, a truck rolled in with the lights cut. Meggie sank to the ground behind a row of bushes and watched. The overhead door to Club 501 raised and Butch hurried out, Harry following in his more deliberate gait. A hundred bats flew into motion deep within her abdomen. Could she do this? Eliza. Eliza needs help.

Runaway: Martini Club 4 Series – The 1920s

Krysta Scott

Blurb: Can she prove her innocence before more than her dreams are destroyed?

After escaping an arranged marriage, Lady Charlotte Leighton lands on a new shore, determined to realize her dream of opening her own bakery. But her plans are shattered when her former fiancé follows her to New York. Now, she finds herself in a fight for her freedom.

Haunted by a string of failures, Detective Felix Noble is determined to solve his latest case. But his efforts to find a murderer are jeopardized by a forbidden attraction to his number one suspect. While he’s certain Charlotte Leighton is keeping secrets, instinct tells him she’s not the murderess he first believed.

Excerpt: “I-I have nothing to say to you.” She whirled and marched away from the expectations that had besieged her since the day she was born. Arranged marriages had been outdated since the early 1800s, even in England.

Heart thumping, breathing shallow, Charli escaped. From him. From her previous life.

Loud, firm steps thundered behind her. What had she expected? The man had followed her from London. Fury pressed through her veins. Well, that was his choice. She hadn’t asked him to look for her. But she couldn’t…wouldn’t go back to that life. She walked faster. Almost running, but strong fingers curled about her arm, jerking her to a stop.

“Charlotte.” He gasped for air. “What the devil are you doing?”

“Getting away from you.” Her hand flew to her mouth. Had those words just come out of her? Only six months in New York, and she’d gained gumption. From wherever the fortitude rose, she embraced it. Clung to it. Needed it. She yanked her arm from his grip, and before he could stop her, continued down the sidewalk. “Leave me alone.”

“Why are you being so obstinate?” His voice echoed in the quiet of the night. Still, he trailed her. The familiar entrance to her flat lay only two blocks ahead. She pushed to close the distance—between Geoffrey and her old life—to reach her haven.

Sir Darius Lee is a Knight of the High Order.

But when Darius discovers a stranger in his room in the middle of the night, and the intruder turns out to be a beautiful woman, he begins to question how he is meant to live his life.

Princess Megan of Bethyea is being held captive.

But when two knights help her to escape and bring her back to her home planet, she finds the home she knew no longer exists.

When The Council of Twelve questions Darius about his relationship with Maggie, she tries to flee from The Academy of the High Order to prevent him from losing his knighthood.

Will Darius and Orion find Maggie before she leaves Albion? And if they do, how can they face the decision of The Council? And what about the feelings Orion has developed for the princess?

 Excerpt ~

CHAPTER ONE

Maggie dropped her trowel in the soft dirt, rising to stretch her sun-kissed back. A tingling began inside which burst into all over warmth. He’s here! She turned and shaded her eyes to search the dirt lane for her husband. Only two weeks had passed since he left on a mission, but to her newlywed heart it seemed like twelve. The sun streaked the sky like the ribs of a paper fan. The autumn breeze tickled her arms, chasing away the comfort the sun gave her minutes earlier and forcing her to draw her shawl more closely around her shoulders. Nothing moved in the distance. Had she been wrong in her sense of him? Perhaps he hadn’t returned after all. The tingling grew stronger.

She squinted at the road. There! At the end of the horizon a small cloud of dirt swirled lazily up from the ground.

Darius!

She held her breath until she saw his tall figure approaching, then she broke into a run. Her shawl flew unheeded behind her. An avalanche of sensations bombarded her as she was swept into his strong arms—the wonderful familiarity of his scent, the warmth of his skin, the comforting sound of his rich voice. She exhaled the ache of the two weeks without him. The touch of his lips on hers melted away the distance separating them since his departure.

Laughing with pure joy, Darius swung her around until she was dizzy. Then he swooped in and stole another kiss.

A throat cleared nearby.

Remembering Orion, Maggie released him Darius throw her arms around his companion. “Oh, my, how I’ve missed you two,” she murmured squeezing him. “You both look great. Not a scratch on you, as instructed.” She smiled, grasping their hands and turning to walk between them toward the house. “Now, tell me all about your trip.”

A little over an hour later, while they enjoyed a cool drink on the back deck, Darius and Orion filled her in on their adventures. In the middle of a story about their mission to Reerdon Darius’s com-link buzzed. He turned his wrist to read the scrolling red message and frowned.

Maggie sat forward in her chair. “What?”

He sighed, placing his hands on his knees and pushing up to stand, glancing at Orion. “They want both of us.”

She couldn’t keep the disappointment out of her voice. “Now? You just got back.”

He took her hands, helping her out of her chair. His features relaxed in a smile. “I promise, it won’t take long. And then you can tell us all about what’s been going on here.”

“Nothing,” she answered, hanging her head.

He lightly pinched her chin between his thumb and finger, raising her chin and giving her a quick kiss. “We’ll have to see about changing that,” he teased with a low growl intended only for her ears.

His sexy tone stirred her blood, and the smile on her face was automatic. This being a knight’s wife was going to take some getting used to, but she would make it work.

Excerpt...

“I’ll admit I’ve had many women in the past, and I can’t apologize for living. But as the years went by, my feelings for you were always someplace deep in my heart. I know that’s why I can’t settle down. Why I can’t find the peace I’ve been searching for. It doesn’t exist without you.”

“How can you say things like that? You don’t even know the woman I’ve become. I’m not that girl who relied on you, the one who would’ve followed you anywhere. I’m not her anymore, Nic. I can’t ever be her again.”

“Maybe I’m not asking for her.” He leaned closer to her face. “Maybe I want to know the woman you are today. I want another shot at this.”

“No,” she whispered.

“If you remember anything about me, I have a hard time with that word.” He tipped her chin, focusing on her lips. “I am going to kiss you. Right here and right now.”

Her knees buckled as a cool tremor swept through her. She wanted to say no. It was the only logical word to mutter, but her heart didn’t want her to say it. Her body wasn’t on board with turning him down either. The warmth that built in her stomach had moved lower, and now all she could think about was his lips on hers.

“It doesn’t sound like you’re asking,” she breathed out.

“I’m not.”

Before she could say anything else, his mouth was on hers, eager, but slow and soft. His stubble grazed along her chin as he tilted his head and deepened their bond. The sound throughout the crowded lobby seemed to fade into the background, and soon, all she could hear was her heart pumping loud between her ears. Why did he have to be such a freakin’ good kisser?

After the incredibly long connection, he pulled away, but not before stopping to kiss the bottom corner of her mouth like he used to.

“I’ve waited a long time to do that,” he said. “It was worth every lonely minute.”

“I... Nic...” She’d always had the gift of words. It was what she did for a living, but in that moment, all of her thoughts were jumbled and senseless.

“It’s okay.” He grinned as he stroked her cheek. “Let’s get something to eat and maybe figure this out. Whatever this is.”

“No.” She ran her hands along his strong chest, resting them on his shoulders.

“Don’t over analyze this, baby.” He glanced down at her hands on his body. “Let’s just go with it.”

“That’s what I’m trying to tell you.” She took a breath and continued before she lost her nerve. “Take me upstairs to your room. I know how we can figure this out.”

“What are you asking?” He placed his hand on the small of her back, drawing her closer to him. “You need to be real clear.”

“I want to go upstairs with you.”

“That’s not why I kissed you.”

“Isn’t it?” She smirked. “We’re adults now, Nicky. Let’s settle this like adults.”

“I’m not looking to settle anything. That usually means it’s over, and we’re nowhere near over.” He motioned for Joe. “I’ll take care of the bar tab and then we’ll get dinner.”

“No.” She draped her arms around his neck, intoxicated by the idea of being so close to him again. He may be older now, and may have lost those boyish looks, but the man he had become suited him and drove her wild with need.

“What did I tell you about that word?”

“I can guarantee I won’t be using it once we’re in your bedroom.” She ran her tongue along her top lip. “I’m going to the ladies room. When I come out, if you’re not by the elevators waiting for me, I’ll know that kiss was nothing more than the heat of the moment and we can go on with our lives.”

“Sage?”

“Shh.” She pressed her lips to his. “Now who’s over analyzing?” She reached for her purse and coat hanging on the back of the stool. “I’ll see you in a few minutes.” I hope.

Tyburn Blurb:

Sally Green is about to die.

She sees Death in the streets. She can taste it in her gin. She can feel it in the very walls of the ramshackle brothel where she is kept to satisfy the perversions of the wealthy. She had come to London as a runaway in search of her Cavalier father. Instead, she found Wrath, a sadistic nobleman determined to use her to fulfill a sinister ambition. As the last of her friends are murdered one by one, survival hinges on escape.

Nick Virtue is a tutor with a secret. By night he operates as a highwayman, relieving nobles of their riches to further his brother’s criminal enterprise. It’s a difficult balance at the best of times, and any day that doesn’t end in a noose is a good one. Saving Sally means risking his reputation, and may end up costing him his life.

As a brutal attack throws them together, Sally finds she has been given a second chance. She is torn between the tutor and the highwayman, but she knows she can have neither. Love is an unwanted complication while Wrath haunts the streets. Nick holds the key to Wrath’s identity, and Sally will risk everything to bring him to justice.

Unless the gallows take her first.

Excerpt:

Darkness had fully settled over the forest and he was in no danger of being seen as they headed for the city. There were no new street lamps so far out of town, and as often as she glanced at his face, all she could see was the outline of his profile by the light of the moon. He moved soundlessly through the night as criminals must, the warmth of his hand in hers the only reassurance she had that he was still beside her.

They reached the edge of Hyde Park and Sally felt Tyburn looming near before she saw it, the residual tragedy of the gallows rippling along the field in a mournful, near perceptible howl. Because she could not look away, she turned toward the evil and saw the fearful silhouette of the triple tree dark against the violet sky.

This is your future, they seemed to whisper.

In her heart, she answered, I know.

She heard the brutal crack of Claude’s strong, young neck reverberate through the darkest corners of her memory, felt his cold lips against hers once more in a terrible promise, and in her bones she felt the stillness of one who is certain they are about to die. She was immediately aware of the unique texture of every breath she drew, the sweet sigh of the breeze whispering through her hair, and the dirt, the calluses, the very fingerprints of the hand in hers.

So little of Sally’s life had been left up to her.

She might have days, hours, mere moments left, but she would be damned if she wasted them.

Book Excerpt

She rose from her chair to step away from the desk when she heard a crashing sound. Her heart hammered inside her chest as she froze, tension in every muscle of her body. What the hell was that?

After a moment of uncertainty, she took hesitant steps toward the hallway. The crash had come from the adjoining bedroom. It was dark inside and instinctively, she reached for the light switch. When she flipped it up, the light didn’t come on, but a buzzing noise could be heard from the center of the room and she saw a tiny spark light in the darkness. Her eyes adjusted to it as she shouldered into the space.

She scanned the room expertly. The window was open and the flimsy white curtain blew freely in the night breeze, creating an eerie vibe. She shivered. She hadn’t left the window open before settling in to work for the night. She remembered latching it and checking the lock for security. She started toward the window but nearly tripped over an object in the dark. Desiree crouched down and felt around the carpet with her fingertips. Her hands met a length of metal and she laughed hoarsely as she righted the lamp, which had somehow fallen. Her hands scraped the edge of a broken bulb.  It explained the noise she’d heard, but why was the window open?

She swallowed tightly and reached to latch it closed. As she began to put the curtain in place, though, a weird tingling swept through her body. Her movements stilled and her eyes widened. Down below on the street stood a dark figure silhouetted by a streetlamp, and he was staring up at her window, at her. Was it really a man? She couldn’t be sure. She couldn’t think straight either; she’d forgotten to breathe in those seconds. When the figure turned and headed down the street, Desiree breathed a long sigh of relief. What was happening? Who was that man? Was she being stalked? She closed her eyes. Had he been in her house?

She shook her head. There was no way he could have gotten in from a second-story window unless he’d climbed. That was a lot of trouble to go to, and didn’t most burglars wait until the occupant left the house to rob it? No, it had to have been a coincidence. Maybe she had left the window open and just didn’t remember.

There was something unsettling about the man in the street, though. A weird sensation that he was dangerous, yet somehow appealing, swept through her.
